Equipping teachers with counseling skills
Committed to holistic education, FAsCE India organized a three-day training for teachers on ‘school counseling skills’ at its head
office in Narengi, Guwahati, from April 8 – 10, 2015.
Twenty eight teachers from 21 schools across Northeast India participated in the training. Aimed at empowering teachers to provide
quality attention to every child, the sessions familiarised them with knowledge of child rights and sensitised them on various child rights’
violations happening around.
The workshop equipped the participants with necessary counselling skills so as to make meaningful and quality interventions in the life
of students struggling to keep pace with the demands of the time.
Dr Philip Thomas, a famous psychotherapist and counselor from NVSC, Pune, conducted the training and accompanied the participants through
various practical sessions, equipping them with necessary skills to enable their students to deal with struggles and make way forward.
Initiating the trainees into the world of psychotherapy through introductory theoretical sessions, the trainer led them to a genuine one-to-one
hands-on experience of couselling.
“The sessions opened up new perspectives of dealing with children and will definitely go a long way in assisting us to help them through
constructive interventions,” exclaimed a participant, speaking about the impact of the training.
The trained teachers are expected to share their know-how with other staff of their given schools and help the students in coping with problems
of day-to-day life. FAsCE India will be accompanying them through the accomplishment of the goal of the training.
